Microphone help & tuning tips
Get in tune. Stay in flow.
- Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Play one open string. Let it ring naturally.
- Tune up slowly until the indicator reaches the center.
Give your guitar some space.
A quiet room helps. Mute the other strings and keep your guitar close to the microphone. Use headphones for reference tones.
If the microphone is unavailable inside a preview, open this page directly in your browser.

How to tune guitar, bass and ukulele
Choose your instrument and tuning first. Allow microphone access, pluck one open string and let the pitch settle. Mute the other strings and adjust the tuning peg slowly until the indicator is centered.
How do alternate tunings work?
The meter compares your pitch with the selected tuning, not just the nearest chromatic note. Auto selects the nearest open string. Lock a target string when changing tuning, especially if a note is far from its destination. DADGAD targets D2, A2, D3, G3, A3 and D4.
Can I tune bass and ukulele?
Choose Bass for four-string, five-string or Drop D tuning. Ukulele supports high-G G4 C4 E4 A4, low-G G3 C4 E4 A4 and baritone D3 G3 B3 E4. Low bass notes may be harder for phone microphones to pick up; an audio interface can help.
What are the standard guitar tuning notes?
From the thickest string to the thinnest, standard tuning is E2, A2, D3, G3, B3 and E4. Tap a string reference to hear a synthesized pitch.
How do I tune to Drop D?
Select Drop D in Tuning settings. Lower the thickest string from E2 to D2; the other five strings stay A2, D3, G3, B3 and E4.
Why is the microphone not working?
Open the tool directly over HTTPS and allow microphone access in your browser and device settings. If access was denied earlier, update the site permission and try again. A quiet room and one ringing string help pitch detection.
Does the tuner upload my audio?
Fartguitar analyzes microphone audio in your browser. It does not record or upload that audio. Stop the microphone when you finish.
