A simple first week with the tools on this site.

  1. Tune up every time you play. A guitar slightly out of tune makes correct chords sound wrong. The tuner takes under a minute, and the tuning guides explain Drop D, DADGAD and more.
  2. Learn four open chords. G, C, D and E minor cover thousands of songs. Look them up in the chord library and listen to each one before you play it.
  3. Change chords in time. Loop G, C, D and E minor in the practice room at a slow tempo. Smooth changes matter more than speed.
  4. Keep a steady beat. Strum along to the metronome at 60–70 BPM, one strum per click, then try two.
  5. Train your ear for five minutes. Ear training teaches you to hear what you play, which is how people learn songs by ear.
